KEFAR MALAL

KEFAR MALAL
KEFAR MALAL (Heb. כְּפַר מַלָּ״ל), moshav in the southern Sharon, Israel, affiliated to Tenu'at ha-Moshavim, first founded on privately owned land in 1911 and named Ein Ḥai. It was destroyed in the battles of World War I. Renewed by a laborers' group after the war, it was again destroyed in the 1921 Arab riots, but was rebuilt as a moshav in 1922, when the land became jewish national fund property. In the 1929 Arab riots, Kefar Malal successfully repelled several attacks. Its settlers hail from Eastern Europe. Citrus groves and dairy cattle constituted the principal farming branches. Kefar Malal's name is composed of the initials of moses lilienblum . In 1967 its population was 270, rising to 443 in 2002. (Efraim Orni)
